# Introduction
As many of you know, the [Supernote](https://tinyurl.com/2p9ttt48) Platform received a new beta update recently. What is most interesting about this particular update is that it the team at Ratta continues to innovate, while still addressing bugs and issues for the everyday users. This is not without controversy. Some users, especially those experiencing the bugs (which is not consistent) see the release of a beta without a new stable release just to fix the bugs as irresponsible. On the other hand, it appears to be a minority of users experiencing issues and perhaps making sure that none of the new features cause additional problems before issuing a new stable release is the best route to go. We will discuss that and the two biggest features in this article.
# What's in the Beta?
Ok, so first it is important to talk about what is in this beta. While I will not outline every item, I would encourage you to read through the official releases here:
- [Chauvet 3.22.32 Beta Release for Manta and Nomad](https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote_beta/comments/1jga1vb/chauvet_32232_beta_release_for_manta_and_nomad/)
- [Chauvet 2.20.32 Beta Release for A5 X and A6 X](https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote_beta/comments/1jgad4y/chauvet_22032_beta_release_for_a5_x_and_a6_x/)
It is important to note here that this is the first time that a new feature was not listed as being added to the previous iteration of the device. While Atelier is available on the A5X and A6X, the new InkFlow app is only available on the X2 series. According to Ratta, this is a porting issue due to the Android version on the X series (currently running Android 8), but they do plan to have it available on these devices in the future. We will focus more here on the four main takeaways as far as new features and functions. We will start with the two biggest updates, that I also highlight in the video below:

## Stickers
Sometime last year or earlier this year, I had an exchange with [hex2asc](https://www.reddit.com/user/hex2asc/) (Ratta's Chief Chat Officer) on Reddit chat where they mentioned stickers. I didn't think much of it at the time. To me, this seemed like just a icon pack or something that would be good for those who bullet journal. However, when it rolled out, I was blown away by it. Instead of being images, the stickers render as collections of editable individual strokes that are treated like anything you write in the [Supernote](https://tinyurl.com/2p9ttt48). With that functionality, it means you can apply all of the following to the built-in sticker or even combine it with text to create a custom sticker:
- Headings
- Keywords
- Calendar Events
- ToDo Items
- Links
The fact that it is not just an icon means you can erase portions of a sticker, or resize and write inside it. For those who bullet journal or that have been wanting to create a true homepage on the Supernote. True, this was doable on your own by using the link function, but for those of us less artistically inclined, this is a way to accelerate this process by starting with a base image. This also opens up the possibility of nested Tables of Contents that a lot of users have been asking for, without the formal structure of some devices. You could save custom headings to easily drop into a notebook.
## InkFlow
While I am more interested in the sticker feature from a writing and organization perspective, this new app has me excited as well. What InkFlow does is use the Wacom layer on your Supernote to allow it to act as a [Wacom Drawing Tablet](https://amzn.to/41MyjQc). You download this from the Supernote App Store like the Atelier app. I played with the app a little in Adobe Illustrator, although I am definitely not an artist, and the pressure sensitivity and accuracy were very good. However, the reason I am most excited about this one is the ability drawn on any app that allows pen input. For example, I showed how the input works with Microsoft Ink by drawing on PowerPoint slides and a Word document. I can just imagine some really cool possibilities.
Don't misunderstand, there is an art and a skill to using a Wacom tablet, even if you are not an artist. While these tablets have long been used in Economics, the Sciences, and Mathematics to help students better understand complex systems and equations, there is no visual representation showing you where your pen is on the screen and the tablet at the same time. You have to learn how to "feel" where the pen is and rely on seeing it on your monitor before you press down to create a stroke. That being said, after a little bit of time, it becomes more comfortable. Additionally, there is a case to be made for using this in writing or marking up papers, and of course the mainstream use of digital art.
## Additional Servers & Increased Sync Efficiency
This is a welcome update. While there were servers outside of China, they were limited to what I would assume were their larger markets. This is a nice addition and shows that the company is growing. Also building out the reliability and functionality of their sync service puts them in a better competitive position with other manufacturers. Again, while not a groundbreaking innovation or anything, it adds value and that is where Supernote excels.
## Pogo Pin Switch: Peripherals Coming?
The Nomad and Manta both launched with pogo pins. These are used primarily to provide a direct connection with peripherals such as lights, keyboard cases or other secondary devices. You see this especially with keyboard cases to minimize lag and allow a more seamless user experience. What is interesting about this update is that they added a switch (off by default) to toggle this functionality on or off. To some, this may be seen as a sign that peripherals are on the way. There is also a nice tutorial on device that walks you through the functionality of the three pins. It seems like a strange edition unless there is some development occurring to use these directly.
# Conclusions & Final Thoughts
Well, there you have it. This is a monster update, with a lot of changes. It does beg the question of whether all of these enhancements are primarily writing forward or if Supernote is looking to expand to be more inclusive of creativity as a general concept (engineering, illustration, animation). Only time will tell, but the way they have been so intentional in the past makes me think there will be more surprises yet to come. As always thank you for your support and please feel free to engage through the various options below. Until next time, keep moving forward.
