# Introduction
BOOX has entered the market with yet another new device. This time, it is an upgrade to their smallest reader in a traditional form factor, the [Go 6 Gen II](https://shop.boox.com/products/go6gen2?ref=change1820). The new Go 6 offers upgraded RAM, new device colors, and the ability to write using the [InkSense Plus](https://shop.boox.com/collections/accessories/products/boox-inksense-plus-stylus?ref=change1820) active stylus. In this short blog, we are going to provide a short overview of the device and specs, and decide if this might be the right device for you. I want to thank BOOX for sending me a device to review, although they have no editorial control and will not see any content before it is made public.
# Main Topic
So, why did BOOX feel it was time to refresh the Go 6? It my opinion, it was to help bring the product more in-line with the current Go Series of devices. In fact, very little has changed when it comes to the actual hardware of the device. It is still small, light (although slightly heavier than the Gen I), has a 300ppi Carta HD display, and supports Google Play. The reality is that there is a small bump in RAM (from 2GB to 3GB) and the addition of writing capabilities, as well as the introduction of new colors and accessories.

Additionally, you will notice what BOOX is calling a "suitcase style" design to reinforce the portability of the device, while the introduction of the [InkSense Plus](https://shop.boox.com/collections/accessories/products/boox-inksense-plus-stylus?ref=change1820) stylus is to capture thoughts on the go and allow for easier highlighting and annotations in books.

The portability and lightness of the device is definitely the draw for most people, including myself. The ability to read across ecosystems such as Kindle, Kobo, or Nook for a slight premium is intriguing. Since we brought up the difference between specs, let's take a quick look in table below:

As the table shows, there is very little difference between the two models, except the slight change in design, increased RAM and ability to write. One of the biggest early criticisms is the decision to not increase the RAM to at least 4GB and upgrade the Android OS to a newer version (more in-line with their other Go series devices).
# Why not Just Buy a Kindle?
I know a lot of you are thinking this, and I wouldn't blame you at all, especially if you are in the Kindle ecosystem. However, there are some important things to note. First, while the traditional [Kindle](https://amzn.to/4onyJao) does have a 300ppi screen and is $109.99 (just for the device, you are looking for at least $145 for the bundle), it only has 16GB of storage and is not expandable beyond that. However, with Kindle's cloud storage, that really has proved to be a hinderance in the past.
Additionally, the reliance on the Kindle ecosystem is something that can't really be overlooked. For about $40 more than the Kindle with a case, you get a writing capable tablet with more (and expandable) storage, the same screen, and access to all reading apps through Google Play. Don't get me wrong though, anyone who has read on both a Kindle and a device with a Kindle app, will tell you that the experience is not the same. They can both be good, but like any other manufacturer, a device running it's own software on their hardware will win every time. The question becomes if the tradeoff is worth it for your use case.
# Conclusions & Final Thoughts
So, there you have it. That is my overview of the new Go 6 Gen II. As I finish writing this, I am preparing to open up the box and you can check that video out below. What do you think? Is this a good entry from BOOX? Are they trying to do too much? Do you really want a stylus on a device this small? Are they risking directly competing with the Palma line? After all, many are using that format for reading now. Feel free to check the video out and drop your comments in the video.
